Soooooooo glad you guys have lonesome county bluegrass band out of ann arbor. They rock it harder than any bluegrass band I’ve seen live. Can’t wait, coming all the way from the windy city to the fest…..again. Great job on this years line up.
BAAA wish it was as big as it was in 08…. those big acts bring in big crowds…. which means big fun…. which brings in big money….
I lived just south of Empire in Frankfort from 2001 to 2005. I went to Dune Grass every year. The last time I went was in 2008 and was shocked at what the small festival had turned into. I’m glad to see your bringing it back to what it used to be, and showcasing true working musicians instead of some of the other big national acts.
OVERNEATH!!!! WOOOP WOOOP!!!
YEAH!
Ryan and many others have and are working hard to bring this awesome weekend to life once again. This festival does highlight more Michigan music than national acts, and that is one reason to love it. If you want lots of big names you can go to one of the several large productions all across the nation. If you want to go to a very kind party at a beautiful place, that will probably surprise you with the quality of music, and crowd, then Dunegrass is it. Also, BIG SAM is a world class trombone player, and I’d expect nothing less from anyone who he plays with.
-Peace-
I have to say, I cannot wait for this year’s Dunegrass!I’ve been coming for the past two years, and i have the most wonderful time every time!
keep sending the good music and awesome times
<3
Sierra I’m excited about Dunegrass 2010 as well! It’s going to be a boogie-woogie good time. ;) Yay!
Hey the line up sounds ok…and i know the past few years have been a lil harder…not many big names drawing in the crowds…just curious if we will see any mainstream bands…not that I dont like the local bands i actually love em…and no seth and daisy may :-( that sucks….what about “the ragbirds” “back forty” “sprout”?? definately wish railroad earth and leftover salmon would come back…keep us updated hope to see more added…
Hey Kyle,
We appreciate the input :) Couldn’t get everyone in this year but are very happy with the lineup. Big Sam is the trombone player from Dirty Dozen Brass Band so we have authentic New Orleans funk on Friday night. That is after Jen Sygit and the Cajun Dance with K. Jones & the Benzie Playboys. We have to alternate the lineup and are certainly focused on the Michigan acts as we only have 4 coming from out of state. One of which, is Jessica Lea Mayfield out of Kent, Ohio. She is a young up and coming star. We’ll see you there! And, I think you’ll say that it was better than ok when the weekend ends :)
Im really hoping for some big bands to come, In 2008 when you guys brought moe. 2 nights me and a couple buddies drove up 10 hours just for them and everyone else that played complimented them. Im holding out for some moe. dunegrass !!!!
The Band Electric Medicine would be a great addition to the Dune Grass Festival
I’m really excited to come back to Dunegrass (I’m from VA but have friends by the great lakes) but what happened to the stellar lineup of 2007-2008?
TLC-
Glad that you’ll be making it back to Dunegrass this year! I think you will find that the lineup is still steller, we just had to bring it back down to earth. The former production company went overboard and created lots of debt in 2008. It was an unsustainable model that Win Win Productions will not be pursuing. Big Sams Funky Nation (trombone player from Dirty Dozen Brass Band) will be playing the midnight set on Friday. It’s going to be a party for sure!
Can you get Greensky blue grass into the lineup they are always a fan favorite
Chris,
We tried….I feel pretty good about them coming in 2011. They’re booked out west that weekend as are Seth & May.
I’m Glad to see Overneath is back on The bill. I caught them on the 2nd stage last summer and they put it down. They really stuck out as a unique act to have on the bill and all great festies need diversity in there programming. Can’t wait, the lineup looks great…any word on a big name national act/headliner (like PBS for instance)?
BIG SAMS FUNKY NATION!!!!
FRIDAY NIGHT (MIDNIGHT)
Big Sam is the trombone player from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Another true taste of New Orleans coming our way this year!!
I concur on the PBS! They rocked 2009 and should come back again!
bugs Beddow band

Years ago, bugs played in Newt & the Salamanders – Empire area legend! More recently, he played with The New 3rd Coast & his NMU alumni friend, John Kumjian in Glen Arbor. It’s time to bring bugs & his band to Dune Country!
Orpheum Bell, please!

Perfect for waltz hour, and your dose of loveliness.
I am a wonderful Emcee, I Emceed Hoxeyville last year and the Harvest Gathering for the last two years in a row. Let me know if you need any one.
I love all of the Michigan bands and consider them all to be my personal friends!
Thanks,
Alison Wonderland
Looks good, although there are some bands on here I don’t know. Like others have mentioned, I am happy that Buckethead won’t be there. We left after his first two songs. Sad about not having the following and hope they can come next year:
GREENSKY BLUEGRASS
SETH & DAISY MAY
CORNMEAL
RAILROAD EARTH
Looking forward to being there after having to take a hiatus last year. Had a baby in June and couldn’t make it, but we’ll be bringing our little one this summer!
hello……good line-up…….but was wondering if this is the final line-up……..how about The Gourds?
What an amazing time at Dunegrass this year!!! LOVED the line-up! All the bands were great! BPS was incindiary!!! What an honor to be a part of it! Thank you Ryan & co. for everything you did to make it all possible! Cant wait to see what’s on the menue for next year!! Peace,Love and Dunegrass!!!
~K
I love the Ragbirds! It was great to hear them perform last night!
Also want to add, thanks for NO BUCKETHEAD…that just wasn’t the Dunegrass thing! Also want to add that I really appreciate all the hard work and energy that went into getting this going again this year and hope people will come together to make it a success! Thanks to everyone that really WORKED to do this! And everyone should be grateful…see you all there…3 more days…”Happy Dunegrass”!:)
Hey, is there a way to print out the lineup without the pages and pages of comments along with it? I tried a few days ago and finally quit printing as I was getting up to 10+ pages of comments, while all I want is the lineup! I guess I could wait till I get there and get one then, right?
Hi Nancy,
If you got to http://www.myspace.com/dunegrassfestival2009
you can go to the blog page and download schedule
audio samples appreciated
Hey, this is the first I’ve heard of this…sounds GREAT !! You’re gonna love FUNCTION !! Great band out of Kalamazoo. If you’re coming from accross the lake, take the Express Ferry… Deals going on right now too. Uh, I work there.. See ya at the Dunes.
Looks like each band plays 45 min. sets?
Most bands are just getting warmed up………as well as their fans!
You guys should check out the Blue Moon Blues Band for next year. Soulful and Bluesey representation of American music! Peace
Oh by the way, yes the lineup does look awesome, its going to be a great time as usual! I was wondering about the mist tunnel, and what the general capacity is going to be this year. Last year was certainly the biggest I had seen it. How many Dunegrassers were there last year? 5000?
I’m simply ecstatic that the festival is happening at all! I hadn’t heard any news and was getting a little nervous. I have decided to go to the Beaver Island fest next weekend, but now I am just going to have to rearrange my schedule and squeeze good ol’ Dunegrass in somehow!
P.S. Last years rainstorm and amazing double rainbow was awesome! There was a this universal hush over the camp, and then all of a sudden someone screamed “Hi Mike (Vandenberg)”! ….yeah, it definetly was him!
Thanks for all the efforts of the Dunegrass organizers this year. Given the circumstances…excellent work my friends. Can’t wait to be up in Empire soaking in some sun and some tunes. Thanks so much for keepin’ this thing rolling.
This should be a real hoo-dang.
Hey fellow Duneheads, as Mike liked to say,it’s a new year and a new festival. It was always our intention for the festival to be a place where new bands and performers could be on a stage in front of good people who like music and have fun. Mike and the people of Empire put this thing on for 15 years and it has been our pleasure to play this great festival for the past 17 years. Lets make this one the best ever with the help of all you great people out there. Her we go again Mike. Tom and the Cabin Fever Boys
What about Captain Crunch and the Cereal Killers? Where are they?
I would also love to see The Gruv Unit at Dunegrass! Get them if you can please.
Gruv Unit! Gruv Unit! Gruv Unit!
thanks for all your work! Keep Jam Sammich in mind for next year, too ;) They are good fun.
sounds like this years dunefest will be what everybody hopes for..no big names, mega quality, good friends. Perfect. Please Ryan, OVERschedule the shuttles to the beach….people will wanna get wet!
thx
We are completely booked for this coming Dunegrass. 45 bands is all we can handle. For anyone who didn’t get in this year, we sincerely hope to hear from you again next year.
See you all there,
Ryan
Colin,
Check out our headliner Porter Batiste Stoltz. They bring some of the best funk in the world, hands down. The group is 3/4 of the Funky Meters. George Porter Jr. was also the original bass player for the meters and has worked with too many legends to count. You should check out the blog on our myspace page http://www.myspace.com/dunegrassfestival2009
They’ll go on saturday at midnight and play 2 sets. The cream of the crop from New Orleans is coming folks, this will be a party to remember!
Line-up looks cool. A lot of MI. Just wondering about BIG names…Will there be any? I’m all for local support, but I think you need at least ONE big name to bring in more people.
I say we all send DSO a note to beg for a charity rate during this re-org year! They were a highlight two years ago! Doesn’t matter either way though – we’re trekking our 6 hours from Chicago because we LOVE this fest!
“All that’s left to do is smile, smile, smile…”!
